PT USHA – ‘PAYYOLI EXPRESS’ at CIS
Another feather in our camp as Padme Shree and Arjunaa awardee PT Usha visited the CIS campus and shared her exciting experiences with the kids in an interactive session with them. She is regarded as one of the greatest athletes India has ever produced and is often called the “queen of Indian track and field”. Born in the village of Payyoli in Kerala, she is nicknamed as the Payyoli Express.
She has won innumerable medals for India but the ones which stand out are in 1985 Asian Track & Field Meet at Jakarta (Indonesia). She secured 5 gold medals in 100m, 200m, 400m, 400m hurdles, 4x400m relay and 1 Bronze medal in 4x100m relay races. This record in the world of athletics has not been matched or surpassed by any other women in the World of Athletics till this date.
It was a very motivational session for the kids as PT Usha shared her success story with everyone. She also told kids about different techniques to increase endurance and stamina. Her simplicity and humble nature inspired the students.
