Chitkara Fair Play Tournament 2013
Chitkara International School always encourages and promotes learning through activities. Sports and games are one of the best tools for teaching good values, positive attitude, responsibility and most of all, fair play to the students. Fair play is a fundamental part of the game of football. It represents the positive benefits of playing by the rules, using presence of mind and respecting fellow players, referees, opponents and fans. Thus, it was chosen as the theme for the tournament.
Chitkara Fair Play Tournament 2013 was a Three-day event from 17th to 19th December 2013. It started with a March Past by all the participating teams as part of the Opening Ceremony on 17 December 2013. The tournament is on league cum knock out basis. Top two teams from each league pool competed against each other in the semi finals and gave the spectators a nail biting final match.
The semi finalists were teams from Vivek High School, Sector – 38, Chandigarh, Strawberry Fields World School, Sector – 26, Chandigarh, St. Soldier’s International School, Sector – 28, Chandigarh and Chitkara International School, Sector – 25, Chandigarh.
It was neck to neck competition between the teams of Chitkara International School and St. Soldier International School. After the match was drawn penalty kick made St. Soldier School enter the final round of the tournament.
The final match saw cheers from audience with applause and appreciation from the Chief Guest who was the celebrated football coach and former player Mr. Bhupinder Singh. The winning trophy was held by Strawberry Field World School with 2-0. First runner’s up trophy was bagged by St. Soldier International School and Vivek High School held the third position with 1-0.
The Best scorer of the tournament was given to Ashrey player of Strawberry Field World School, Best Goal keeper of the tournament was awarded to Kapil of St. Soldier International School. Sehraj of Vivek High School was announced as player of the tournament. Most valuable player was awarded to Swamya of Chitkara International School. Chitkara International School was awarded as Fair play award for they played all fair according to the rules of FIFA.
Mr. Bhupinder Singh was elated to see such young talent on the field. He said,” the tournament was of international standard with efficient display of coordination and true sportsman spirit”.
Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Niyati Chitkara, Principal, Chitkara International School congratulated the winning team. She propagated team spirit and competitive spirit in right amount within a child.
